Greeting Ministry PDF Print E-mail

Hello Greeters/Ushers and all those interested in this fun and fulfilling ministry.  We believe our Greeters are OWC's front line ministers; the "first impression" if you will, to Openwater.  If you love to encourage people, give hand shakes, and smile a lot then this is the ministry opportunity for you.

Below are the ministry responsibilities just in case you would like to join this awesome ministry that epitomizes the OWC "Love God & Love Others" purpose statement!

ARRIVAL TIMES

The 1st service Greeters need to be at their spots no later than 9:00 am and the 2nd service Greeters no later than 10:30 am.   It is imperative that you are there early and at the door just in case new people come early to check out the church.  Your first impression will have a tremendous influence on a guest returning the following week.

SCHEDULING CHANGES

If you cannot make it on the day you had been scheduled please do the following:
Find a replacement by calling the people on our phone list.  It is preferred that you call the people that are scheduled the week prior to you or call those who are serving the following week. When you have found a replacement please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   or call me at the church (813-920-9922)

FRONT DOOR GREETERS

The Front Door Greeters meet people with a smile and a handshake at the front door of the church.  They give out bulletins to those coming into the church.  And they help direct guests to the children’s rooms, encourage them to enjoy the free drinks and snacks in the lobby, and introduce them to others in the church if possible.  They remain at the doors until 9:50 in the 1st service and 11:20 in the 2nd service.  With so many people coming late to churches these days (ours is not the only one) we need to stay at the front doors in order to greet them properly.  Leave the extra bulletins on the front black table with the candle arrangement.

SANCTUARY DOOR GREETERS

The Sanctuary Door Greeters meet people at the entrance of the Sanctuary with the doors open until the service begins.  As the service begins they close the doors.  As people come in they give bulletins to those who may have been missed at the front door.  They remain at the door inside the sanctuary, greet people as they come in, and help people find seats in the sanctuary.  They also remove ropes, a row at a time, as the rows fill up.  Do not remove the ropes until the front chairs have been filled.  It makes it easier for you to find seats for the late comers.  They remain at the doors until 9:50 in the 1st service and 11:20 in the 2nd service to help people find seats.

GREETERS RESPONSIBILITIES AS USHERS

Both the Front Door and Sanctuary Door Greeters will be the ushers in the sanctuary as we receive the morning offering and communication cards.
